Only artistic and creative ventures are funded by this program. Applicants with a scientific project or those studying art history or art studies can apply for other DAAD fellowship programs.

Admission to one of the institutions is not always assured by the confirmation of a scholarship. The individual university makes the decision of whether or not to grant scholarships. Generally speaking, candidates must pass an admission exam. Please inquire as soon as possible about the prerequisites for admission, the dates for the interview, and the application deadlines at the university of your choice. Keep in mind that these may be many months ahead of the time you had intended to begin your studies or even before the DAAD grants the scholarship. The expense of the admission exam is not something we can pay. The recipient of a scholarship given by the DAAD may not utilize it if they are accepted into any of the institutions listed on their application but are not admitted to any of them.

Benefits

  • a Master’s degree course or postgraduate degree course leading to a final qualification
    or
  • a complementary course without degree (not an undergraduate course)
  • at a state-recognized German university of your choice.
  • Between 10 and 24 months, depending on the length of the chosen study program
  • Start: usually on October 1 of the following year or earlier if a German language course is taken before the study program
  • The scholarships are awarded for the duration of the standard period of study for the chosen study program (up to a maximum of 24 months). Please state the entire period for which you wish to apply for funding in your application. For example, if you are planning a 2-year degree program, you must directly indicate two years as the desired scholarship duration in your application. After the first year of study, your academic achievements will be assessed in a further funding procedure. If this shows that you will complete your program within a reasonable period, the scholarship will continue as planned.
