All expenses for the students chosen for scholarships will be covered. Students who have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree are eligible to apply for this scholarship. These scholarships are available in the subjects of computer science, mathematics, physics, biology, neuroscience, and their associated fields from the Institute of Science and Technology. The length of a scholarship varies by discipline and ranges from 4 to 5 years.

• Statement of Purpose (SoP) Your Statement of Purpose (SoP) is a crucial component of your application that introduces you to the admissions committee and explains why you should be admitted to the program. In your SoP, you should introduce yourself, explain your interests and motivations, summarize your academic history, discuss the relevance of your recent and current activities, and elaborate on your academic interests and what motivates you to apply to this particular program. You should also specify in enough detail what you would like to study in graduate school to convince the faculty that you understand the scope of research in their discipline and are engaged with current research themes. Additionally, you should specify up to three research groups at ISTA that you find the most interesting.

Selection

1. undergraduate performance: In general, the emphasis is on field-specific courses that are relevant.
2. reference letters One letter from industry is acceptable, but letters from an academic background are given priority. Referees are asked to address analytical capabilities, technical proficiency, ability to work independently, and motivation/commitment.
3. statement of purpose: The applicant’s research experience and motivation for applying to this Ph.D. program should demonstrate how the program aligns with their academic and career goals.
4. additional relevant skills (field-specific): demonstrated in, e.g., internships and/or participation in research projects, participation in science Olympiads, programming languages, lab techniques, etc.
5. transferable skills: e.g. Strong communication skills, experience collaborating in diverse teams, international exposure, leadership experience in student organizations, etc.
6. diversity: e.g. a woman in computer science/math/physics; an applicant who switched fields, etc.;
