Job Description

The LPI Summer Intern Program in Planetary Science provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to perform cutting-edge research, learn from widely respected planetary scientists, and discover exciting careers in planetary science. During the 10-week internship, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment activities, including lectures and career development workshops.

Through the LPI Summer Internship 2024, undergraduate students may do research and gain greater knowledge about planetary science. For international students, the LPI Intern program offers a 10-week paid internship in the United States. Throughout their internship, participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars in addition to taking part in activities. The Lunar and Planetary Institute is shortened to LPI.

Undergraduates with a minimum of 50 semester hours of credit are invited by the Lunar and Planetary Institute to participate in cutting-edge research in the lunar and planetary sciences. Students who are majoring in physical or natural science, engineering, computer science, or mathematics are preferred, but all eligible students will be considered.

The program lasts for 10 weeks, starting on June 3 and ending on August 9, 2024. During this time, summer interns will work closely with a scientist from the LPI or the NASA Johnson Space Center on a research project. Selections will be made based on the information provided in the submitted application, such as academic experience and scientific interests, as well as specific research project requirements.

In March 2024, selected participants will be notified. Interns who participate in person will be located either at the Lunar and Planetary Institute or the NASA Johnson Space Center, both situated in Houston, Texas.
