Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field, or be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and be on track to graduate no later than August 31, 2024,
• An outstanding academic record;
• Strong interest in the interdisciplinary study of China;
• A record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential;
• English proficiency.

Documetns

Candidates can submit their applications online at Yenching Academy. The following materials must be submitted in English, and each candidate must register for an account on the Yenching Academy admissions website.

• Completed online application form;
• Personal statement (750 words or less);
• Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1500 words, excluding citations);
• Curriculum Vitae;
• Official transcript(s);
• Diploma(s) or Certificate(s) of Enrollment;
• Two academic letters of recommendation;
• English requirements and minimum scores:
• ○ IELTS (Academic): Overall 7.0
• ○ TOEFL (iBT): Overall 100
• ○ Cambridge English Scale (Advanced): Overall 185
• ○ CET 6: Overall 600
• ○ TEM 4: Pass level of “良好” or above

English proficiency exam results are not necessary for international candidates whose native language is English or who have completed an English-taught degree program (undergraduate or above). Even if they attended or completed an English-taught degree program, applicants from the Chinese provinces of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan (HMT) must submit a report from an English proficiency exam. Candidates from these areas will need to pursue English as a Second Language after enrolling at Peking University without presenting a copy of their English proficiency exam results. An English proficiency test report is a requirement for candidates from the Chinese Mainland.

Note: 

• Starting on August 15, 2023, we will begin accepting applications for the 2024 cohort of Yenching Scholars.
• The deadline for applications is December 3, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Beijing time.
• Before submitting an application to the Yenching Academy, all students and graduates of Partner Universities must first complete the internal pre-selection procedure at their home institutions.
• Candidates must be foreign nationals with current passports. Chinese citizens who have emigrated from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and are applying to Peking University as international students must provide a valid passport or citizenship document that was issued prior to April 30, 2018, as well as evidence that their Chinese nationality has been revoked.
