The People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Education launched the Chinese Government Scholarship-High Level Graduate Programme to assist certain Chinese colleges and institutions in directly selecting and endorsing gifted foreign candidates to pursue studies in China. Among the esteemed universities participating in this program to entice graduate students to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees is Wuhan University.

Eligibility

  • be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically;
  • be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;
  • be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;
  • have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctoral programs;
  • If you have passed HSK Level 5 or higher, you can apply for your major study directly. On the other hand, if you’ve passed HSK Level 4, you can apply for Chinese language courses for one year, and once you meet the requirements, you can move on to major study. If you have obtained a degree at a Chinese university using Chinese as the language of instruction, you don’t need to provide proof of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK). However, you will need to provide proof of Chinese as the language of instruction.
  • When applying for English-taught master’s or doctoral programs, you are required to submit a report of your English Language Test results. The minimum accepted scores are TOEFL 80+ or IELTS 6.0+. In case you are unable to provide the standard English test result mentioned, you can submit proof of your previous studies at an institution where the language of instruction is English. However, you will be required to take additional oral or written English tests organized by Wuhan University. Native English-speaking applicants are exempt from providing the above English proficiency certificate.
  • To apply for an English-taught master’s program in clinical medicine, it is necessary for the applicants to have passed HSK (Level 4) or above. If an applicant has only passed HSK (Level 3), they can still apply for the program but will need to complete one year of Chinese language training courses first before proceeding with their degree study after meeting the requirement.

  3. Copy of the Ordinary Passport Home Page If the validity of the applicant’s current ordinary passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before March 1, 2025), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.
  4. To apply for a degree program, you need to provide notarized copies of your highest diploma or degree certificate, starting with your undergraduate program. The original notarized copies must be obtained directly from your school, university, or public notary office with an official stamp. If you are a prospective diploma winner, you must submit an official pre-graduation certificate and an on-school performance certificate issued by your current school. The pre-graduation certificate should include not only your current student status but also your expected degree certificate and graduation date. If your documents are in a language other than Chinese or English, they must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.
  5. When applying for admission, it is necessary to provide academic transcripts starting from the undergraduate program and continuing through the graduate and doctoral programs, if applicable. These transcripts must be issued and sealed by the university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department and should include academic records from the first to the last semester. The transcripts can be in Chinese or English, but if they are in any other foreign language besides English, they must be accompanied by notarized English translations.
  6. language qualification certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit valid HSK reports in accordance with the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements. Applicants for English-taught programs shall provide relevant language proficiency certificates, like IELTS or TOFEL reports;
  7. A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words. The content of the plan shall include completely and clearly your personal introduction, education experience, the purpose of studying in China, your acknowledgment of China and Wuhan University, the study plan, research direction, and future development vision.   8. As part of the application process, you will need to submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. These letters must be written in either Chinese or English, dated, and signed by the referees. They should include a description of your objectives for studying in China, an evaluation of your comprehensive abilities, and an assessment of your potential for future growth.

  10. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.
  11. To apply for a visa to China, you need to provide a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form that has been completed in English. The form is provided by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. It is important to ensure that all the items listed in the form are covered during the physical examination. The records should be complete with the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, and a sealed photograph of the applicant. It is important to take the physical examination at an appropriate time since the result is valid for only 6 months.   12. Non-Criminal Record Report in English or Chinese The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
