Job Description
The SMART Scholarship in the United States of America 2023 is now accepting applications. International students from particular nations are eligible for this program. The American Department of Defense completely funds the available scholarships. The DoD scholarships are for the 2023–2024 academic year. Full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the DoD are all provided to SMART students. The Ronald V. Dellums Memorial SMART Scholarship (Dellums SMART Scholarship) and the SMART Scholarship are both available to STEM students through the SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program.
The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program, funded by the Department of Defense (DoD), is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for STEM students.
A combined educational and workforce development option for STEM students is the SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program. Undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral STEM students can apply for scholarships from SMART. Scholarship awardees are entitled to free tuition, yearly stipends, internships, and post-graduation employment guarantees with the Department of Defense. Annually, applications are accepted from August 1 to December 1.
The Department of Defense STEM Program’s greatest educational and workforce development effort, the SMART Scholarship develops future leaders in 24 STEM areas. During their internships at one of the more than 200 Department of Defense sites, scholarship recipients get practical experience and use this knowledge as early career professionals. In the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, autonomy, cyber, space, 5G, and other technologies, Department of Defense laboratories are at the cutting edge of innovation.

SMART Scholarship Benefits include:
- Full tuition and education related educational expenses (meal plans, housing, and parking not included)
- Stipend paid at a rate of $30,000 – $46,000 a year depending on degree level (may be prorated depending on award length)
- Summer research internships ranging from 8 to 12 weeks
