Risk Specialist Job by UNDP Kabul

About

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the principal UN agency working to combat the injustices of poverty, inequality, and climate change. We assist governments in developing comprehensive, long-lasting solutions for people and the environment by collaborating with our extensive network of specialists and partners in 170 countries. During the last 50 years, UNDP has worked in Afghanistan on issues such as gender equality, governance, health, livelihoods, and the rule of law. The UNDP is assisting the Afghan people in achieving their goals of peace, prosperity, and sustainability under the umbrella of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in close collaboration with other UN organizations. As part of the continuing UN-led effort to avert a humanitarian disaster, UNDP is now conducting its flagship crisis response program, ABADEI (Area-Based Approach to Development Emergency Initiatives).

Both short- and long-term growth and peace in Afghanistan have been significantly impacted by the country’s quickly changing political and security environment. Between 1 January and 9 August 2021, more than 550,000 individuals abandoned their homes as a result of the violence, increasing the overall number of internally displaced people (IDPs) to 3.5 million (9% of the total population). At least 30,000 individuals are also said to be departing the nation each week. The nation is fragile and must contend with issues like COVID-19, poverty, food insecurity, climate devastation, and economic effects, among others.

These changes have significantly changed the environment in which the UN functions, posing difficulties for current initiatives and operations as well as hindering advancement toward the Agenda 2030 goals for sustainable development.
